Why Does the Icemaker in the Refrigerator Not Work?
Certain types of refrigerators come with ice makers pre-installed. With the flip of a switch your unit can produce cold, solid ice cubes for all of your needs. Troubleshooting an ice maker can be done in a few simple steps. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Water
-
Make sure the water supply line running to your refrigerator is hooked up properly. An ice maker cannot make ice cubes without water.
Temperature
-
Check the temperature of your refrigerator. Most units will be unable to make ice cubes above a certain temperature. Check your refrigerator's instructions manual for the specifics of your particular unit.
-
Shut Off Arm
-
Each ice maker is equipped with a shut off arm that tells your unit to automatically stop making ice cubes when the tray is full. Make sure your shut off arm isn't stuck if your ice maker refuses to work.
Power
-
Make sure your refrigerator is plugged in and operational. The internal ice maker uses the power coming from the refrigerator for power, so it will be unable to work if your fridge is unplugged.
The Tray
-
Certain types of ice makers can sense when the ice tray is resting correctly in its place. Make sure your ice tray is where it should be if your ice maker is not working.
