Recovery Time From Tooth Implant Surgery
The American Academy of Implant Dentistry describes implants as artificial tooth roots inserted into the jaw to replace missing teeth. Titanium posts are surgically implanted into the gums. Later, a prosthetic tooth or crowns are attached to the posts.

Discomfort
-
In the 24 hours after a dental implant you are likely to experience mild soreness, minor bleeding and swelling. These symptoms can be treated with over-the-counter medications recommended by your oral surgeon.
Activities
-
Most people can return to work the day after the surgery. You may need to eat soft foods for five to seven days after the surgery to place the posts. Dental implants can also make your teeth sensitive, so very hot or cold foods should be avoided.

Duration
-
A recovery period of at least three to six months can be expected while the bone grows around the titanium posts that have been implanted. This process may induce periods of soreness.
Care
-
It is critical to practice meticulous oral hygiene after implant surgery. Neglecting to do so can result in swelling and implant failure. During your recovery time you will need to have your implants cleaned by a dental hygienist specially trained in maintaining implants.
Considerations
-
If dentures were worn before the surgery, the surgeon may place a soft lining in them to allow you to wear them without discomfort. In some cases, it may need to be left out for a short period of time. If there are spaces where teeth are missing, temporary teeth can be made to fill the spaces.
