Customs at the Bali Denpasar Airport

Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), sometimes referred to as Denpasar Airport, is eight miles southwest of the city of Denpasar on the southern tip of the island of Bali. Customs and immigrations procedures are strictly regulated.

  1. International Arrivals

    • International passengers must pass through immigration, baggage claim and the customs area before exiting the airport. Passengers are directed to an escalator that takes them to the processing area on Level 1.

    Visas

    • Passengers must hold a valid passport and must purchase a seven- or 30-day visitor visa upon arrival if they do not already have one in their possession. After purchase, passengers take the visa, their passport and the completed immigration form (usually handed out on the plane) to the Immigration Desk.

    Customs Declaration

    • Once baggage has been collected, passengers are directed to one of two customs counters. Passengers with items to declare go to the counter with the red sign and will be expected to open their luggage. Passengers with nothing to declare are directed to the counter with the green sign. Luggage here is randomly screened.

    Forbidden Imports

    • Bali does not allow the importation of narcotics, pornography, weapons and radio/cassette players. Videos and exposed film are not allowed. Plants, animals, fresh fruits and items with Chinese characters are also forbidden.

    Importation Allowance

    • Visitors may bring in up to 1 liter of alcohol as well as 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars (100 g of tobacco may be substituted). Cameras, typewriters, computers and radios (without the cassette players) may be brought in if declared on the customs declaration form and the items are not left in Bali.

    Export Restrictions

    • The exportation of ivory, crocodile skins and tortoise shells is illegal. There are Duty Free shops in the departure lounge offering a limited variety of perfumes, liquors and tobacco items priced in U.S. dollars.
