There are several Web archive file formats. Each format has a different file extension.

A Web archive file is a single, self-contained file containing a collection of Web pages, images and related files. Web archive files are used for saving a historical record, allowing offline access and creating a portable copy of Web content.
ARC

ARC is the file extension for the Internet Archive's ARChive file format. This file format is used by the Internet Archive to store snapshots of websites.

WARC

WARC is the file extension for the Web ARChive file format and extension of the ARC file format. WARC is an open standard designed for general historic archival of Web content.
WEBARCHIVE

WEBARCHIVE is the file extension for the Apple WebArchive file format. WebArchive files can be created and read by Safari and several other applications.
MHTML and MHTM

MHTML and MHTM are the file extensions for the Mime HyperText Markup Language Web archive file format introduced by Microsoft in 1999. MHTML files can be created and read by Internet Explorer, Microsoft Word and several other applications.
WAR

WAR is the file extension for the Sun Microsystems' Web ARChive file format (also called Web Application Archive). The WAR file format is a Java Archive (JAR) used for archiving a Web application.
