Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system enables you to run Microsoft programs from your PDA or Pocket PC. Microsoft Word for Windows Mobile edition or Pocket Word allows you to create word processing documents on your PDA using pwi files.

Identification

A file with a pwi file extension is known as a Pocket Word document.

Location

You are most likely to find a file with a pwi extension in the "Documents" folder on your PDA or on your PC after you have imported the document from your PDA using a USB cord.

Function

A pwi file contains a word processing document created on your PDA. The document could serve many specific functions such as a letter, report or memorandum.

Features

When you import a pwi file to your computer, you are able to access the document using Microsoft Word. But if you used the light pen on your PDA to write any of the words on the document, this "ink data" will not display properly on Microsoft Word.

Considerations

On your computer, pwi files can only be accessed with Microsoft Word. If you receive an error message while trying to access a pwi file, you might not have Word properly installed on your computer.
