According to 3DChem, Epoxy is is "a thermosetting polymer that cures when mixed with a catalyzing agent or "hardener". It is also used for airplane and automobile construction and repair.

Epoxy comes packaged in at least two separate parts, the "resin" and the "hardener," and are often color coded to avoid mix-ups. Curing time can be controlled by the type of hardener used and the environment in which the epoxy is curing.

Using epoxy over another adhesive like cyanoacrylate (Super Glue) offers the user more control over the application method and curing time. Epoxy has a thicker consistency than other adhesives and will stay in place when repairing broken pieces of pottery.

When searching for an epoxy to use for pottery repair, look for epoxies that sand off easily when they dry, have faster curing times and are water soluble for easy cleanup.
