Choosing a paint color is just the first step.
Choosing a paint color is just the first step.

Painting is one of the easiest ways to add value to your home, or just give a room a different look. When you do paint, it is important to pay attention to the type of surface you are painting on and use the proper supplies to do the job.

    Function

  1. When painting any surface, a very guideline to follow is: the rougher the surface to be painted, the longer the nap of the roller needs to be; the smoother the surface, the shorter the nap needs to be.
  2. Features To Shop For

  3. When shopping for a roller, look for a plastic core, not a cardboard core. Due to the rough surface, you may be applying some pressure to the roller and need the added durability and strength that a plastic core provides.
  4. Nap

  5. If the concrete wall is rough to very rough, look for a nap length of 3/4 to one inch. A very versatile nap length is 3/8 of an inch, this can be used on less rough concrete finishes.
  6. Speed and Finish

  7. Using the correct roller provides both speed and versatility of application. Most paints are formulated for roller application to provide a smoother finish.
  8. Benefits

  9. When the correct roller is used, the nap will push the paint into the deep valleys of the rough surface.
