Benign breast pain is any pain attributed to a non-cancerous condition such as cysts, tumors or inflammation.
Causes

According to The Women's Health Source, changes in the breast tissue are to blame for non-cancerous breast pain. There are two types of breast tissue, glandular and stromal. Stromal breast tissue is comprised of fat cells and fibers and serves as the supporting tissue. Glandular tissue is where milk is produced and stored.

A supportive bra will help alleviate most types of breast pain. Bras should be supportive and well fitting.
Caffeine

Caffeine is known to contribute to breast pain. Reducing caffeine intake is recommended.
Medicine

Common medications for benign breast pain include tamoxifen, danazol and bromocriptine, advises PubMed.gov. Home treatments include warm compresses, Ace bandages and over-the-counter pain relievers and anti-inflammatory medications.
