Foods to Avoid with Candida

Candida is a type of naturally occurring bacteria in the human body, but when it becomes too plentiful it can create a number of health problems. Fortunately, following a strict diet can help keep candida under control.

  1. Sweets

    • Candida feeds on sugar and other refined foods that are converted into sugar by the body. Avoid anything sweet, including artificial sweeteners such as aspartame and saccharin.

    Fruit

    • Because fruits naturally contain sugar they should also be avoided. Once symptoms associated with candida begin to resolve, then fruits can gradually be reintroduced into the diet.

    Refined foods

    • Refined foods such as grains, pasta, white bread and those made from enriched flours are converted into sugar by the body and should be avoided.

    Dairy

    • The living organisms in dairy products such as milk and cheese can contribute to candida growth. Some candida sufferers can tolerate yogurt, as it contains probiotics that can combat candida, but choose yogurt that is low in sugar or sugar-free.

    Drinks

    • Avoid sweet beverages such as soft drinks and fruit juices, as well as coffee and other caffeinated drinks, alcohol and chlorinated water.
