What Is the Drug Provigil?
Provigil is used to treat excessive sleepiness such as that associated with narcolepsy, sleep apnea and sleep disorders related to shift work by increasing wakefulness. It is used along with other treatments for sleep disorders, and is generally well-tolerated with mild side effects.

Dosage

The typical dose is 200 m once a day. For narcolepsy, it is usually taken in the morning. For disorders related to shift changes, it is taken one hour before beginning the shift according to RxList.
Side Effects

The most common side effects are headache, nausea, nervousness, difficulty sleeping, back pain and runny nose. In rare cases, life-threatening rashes, hallucinations, depression, thoughts of suicide and aggression can occur.

Ingredients

The active ingredient of Provigil is a crystalline powder called modafinil. Inactive ingredients are microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinized starch, croscarmellose sodium, povidone, lactose and magnesium stearate.
Contraindications

Provigil should not be taken by those with mitral valve prolapse or those allergic to any of the ingredients. It is also not approved for use in children.
Abuse

Provigil can cause feelings of euphoria and can potentially be abused. Patients with a history of drug abuse should be monitored. Do not take more of this medication than prescribed by your doctor.
