Lady palm plants are regularly sold at garden stores. This small plant allows people to bring a miniature palm tree indoors that will ultimately infuse any space with a tropical vibe. If you're considering caring for a lady palm, some basic information will help you better understand this plant.

    Size

  1. With a potted plant, it's important to know how big it will get. Lady palms eventually outgrow their initial pots by a lot, reaching an adult size of four meters (about 13 feet) tall, so keep this in mind if you don't have high ceilings or don't live in a climate where you can ultimately replant it outside.
  2. Appearance

  3. Best described as a cross between a coconut palm and a bamboo shoot, these plants offer an exotic aesthetic. They have broad, segmented leaves and long, thin trunks.
  4. Growth Rate

  5. The University of Hawaii at Manoa's tropical plant and soil sciences department considers the lady palm a slow-growing plant. Though repotting is needed, the plant remains small for several months.
  6. Natural Habitat

  7. These plants come mainly from Taiwan and China. Lady palm plants are not found in the wild. All known populations are cultivated on farms, primarily in China.
  8. Proper Care

  9. Regular watering is essential, and the leaves should remain slightly moist. Drained water should be discarded. Natural sun is preferred, but lady palm plants can survive on filtered light.
  10. Seeding

  11. Seeding lady palm plants producse fruit. The fruit is small and white; some domesticated mammals will try to eat this fruit. Thankfully, PetFriendlyHouse.com reports, lady palms are not harmful to pets.
