A hybrid car is also known as a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), made with both electric and gasoline systems. A true hybrid runs using just the gas engine, only the electric motor, or allows you to choose both.

In 2012, Subaru plans to release its first gasoline-electric hybrid, according to Ikuo Mori, president of Fuji Heavy Industries of Subaru. This hybrid will be based on one of the current Subaru models.

Since hybrids make little to no noise on the road, Hollywood's special effects team is working with auto companies to create sound effects for hybrids. Owners may be able to choose "car tones" while driving.
