What Are the Duties of a Senior Pastor?
The senior pastor is the spiritual and administrative leader of the local Protestant church. This position is usually filled by interview with the church's hiring committee or a state overseer.

The senior pastor oversees the elders, associate pastors and lay ministers insuring that the church is fulfilling the overall vision and mandate of service to the community.
Teacher

The senior pastor is the primary teacher of scriptural interpretation and church doctrine. In this role of teacher he speaks at special services and classes for leadership and staff.

The senior pastor offers the local church body counseling in spiritual matters. He visits the sick and homebound among the congregation.
Officiates

As lead pastor, the senior pastor may be asked to officiate at weddings, funerals and baby dedications. In some communities, he may be asked to give the benediction at city meetings.

The senior pastor directs his personal staff and office workers. This would include assigning duties and all hiring of new workers.
