Nix Lice Treatment
Outbreaks of head lice in children between ages 3 and 11 are most common, but adults also may be affected. An infestation of lice causes itching, particularly behind the ears and the back of the neck. Once you have determined that lice are present, Nix lice treatment is effective in eliminating them.

Detection
-
Lice are often difficult to see, but their nits (eggs) may be easier to locate. They are small and shiny, either whitish, yellowish brown or clear, and can be found near the scalp, attached to the hairs.
Nix Rinse
-
Wash your child's hair with regular shampoo, rinse and lightly towel dry. Apply the Nix lice treatment creme rinse thoroughly, including behind his ears and the nape of his neck. Leave on for 10 minutes, rinse, then towel dry with a clean towel.
-
Combing
-
Following treatment, you should use a fine-toothed comb to go through your child's hair to remove any remaining nits.
Control
-
Thoroughly vacuum rugs, furniture, mattresses and car seats, and wash bed linens, coats, scarves, towels, combs and brushes in hot water. Articles that cannot be washed should be placed in a plastic bag and sealed for four weeks; large items can be sprayed with Nix Lice Control Spray.
Active Ingredient
-
Nix contains permethrin, an insecticide that effectively kills the lice and their eggs. It is approved by the Food and Drug Administration and prevents reinfestation for as long as 14 days after treatment.
Considerations
-
According to Drugs.com, before using Nix you should consult your doctor if you are pregnant or nursing, have other medical conditions or if you are using any other medications (prescription or non-prescription) that are applied to your hair, scalp or skin. Consult your doctor for treatment of children under 2 months of age.
