What Is Adrenergic Hyperactivity?

Adrenergic hyperactivity is a disorder that causes inattentiveness and an inability to remain focused and calm. This disorder affects how a person reacts to things and causes uncontrollable hyperactivity in many situations.

  1. Terminology

    • The term adrenergic refers to the brain's use of epinephrine. Adrenergic hyperactivity occurs when epinephrine's release or action is abnormal.

    Signs

    • Adrenergic hyperactivity is very similar to ADHD, or attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. Common signs include fidgety behavior, constant motion, trouble remaining still and ceaseless talking.

    Dangers

    • Adrenergic hyperactivity is not terminal and does not cause physical damage but makes everyday tasks much more difficult and time consuming.

    Causes

    • A specific cause of adrenergic hyperactivity is not known at this time, but genetics, diet, social factors and physical environment have all been discussed as catalysts for the disorder.

    Treatment

    • It is best to consult a physician to obtain a prescription for one of the many drugs available to combat adrenergic hyperactivity. Counseling and lifestyle alterations are also recommended to help lessen the disorder's impact.
