File extension .TIM can refer to four types of files. Most commonly, it is a Sony PlayStation Game Texture Image. It can also be an RPC III file, a level file for The Incredible Machine or a Tiff image file.

  1. PlayStation Image

    • The Sony PlayStation Game Texture Image (Sony Corporation of America) file is the standard file format for images on the Sony PlayStation. This type of image file can be opened by the free viewers XnView or ImageMagick (see Resources section).

    RPC III

    • TIM can be a file extension for a type of testing file, RPC III, used by MTS Systems Corporation, as part of its systems testing software.

    The Incredible Machine

    • Sierra's The Incredible Machine is a computer game series. The proprietary .TIM file contains a "level" of the game, and is opened and read by that game.

    Tagged Image

    • Tagged Image File Format generally has the file extension .TIFF or .TIF. However, occasionally a TIFF Revision 6 image file may use the extension .TIM.

    If in Doubt

    • In general, the concerned file contains graphics information and can be treated as an image file.
