Eating proper foods is one important factor in maintaining a healthy body. By combining knowledge of food preparation and nutrition, dietary aides ensure patients receive healthy meals based on their own personal preference and nutritional needs.

  1. Description

    • Employed by hospitals, nursing homes and other care facilities, dietary aides, also known as dietetic technicians, work closely with dietitians and other health care professionals to ensure the nutritional needs of patients are met.

    Duties

    • Dietary aides spend much of their day talking to patients about their personal food preferences, discussing dietary requirements with other health care professionals and assisting dietitians in developing menus and nutritional care plans.

    Education

    • Most employers require dietary aides to have an associate degree from an accredited program approved by the American Dietetic Association. In order to become certified, students must pass a national exam administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
