Children may experience dizziness as a result of several different medical conditions or health problems. If your child is experiencing dizziness, it is important to consider their other symptoms and speak with a health care professional.
Children who experience dizziness often feel as though they are spinning or the room around them is spinning. Dizziness often causes the child to feel as though they may lose their balance and fall down.
The inner ear contains mechanism that control the body's balance. When a child develops a viral ear infection, it disrupts the ear's equilibrium, causing dizziness.
When a child has low blood sugar, the brain is not receiving enough glucose to function properly. As a result, the child often becomes lightheaded and dizzy. Similarly, the child may also experience dizziness when they have high blood sugar. This occurs because there is not enough insulin available to bind with the glucose.
Meniere's disease is a disorder that affects the inner ear, causing abnormal sensory perceptions. Children with this disease experience frequent bouts of dizziness, per the Mayo Clinic.
Anemia occurs when the body has a low number of red blood cells, which results in the child's body not receiving enough oxygen. As a result, the child's body has to work harder to get enough oxygen, resulting in fatigue and dizziness.
