Laser Treatment With a Laserscope for Face Veins
Laser treatment is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure that can reduce the appearance of facial veins---spider veins, spider angiomas, and benign vascular lesions. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Identification
-
According to DermaNetwork.org, facial veins are dilated blood vessels, typically only a cosmetic issue on fair-skinned individuals. Veins range in size, color (pinkish-red to deep purple), and intensity.
Expert Insight
-
John Hopkins Cosmetic Center recommends pulsed dye laser (PDL) treatment as the most effective solution for this condition.
-
How It Works
-
PDL treatment uses a Laserscope to target abnormal cells causing the visible veins. The high-intensity, light-filled laser beam targets and destroys unwanted blood vessels beneath the skin, stimulating new, properly functioning skin cells.
Procedure
-
According to the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF), the procedure is painless and requires no anesthesia. Treatment sessions typically last a few minutes, but may take up to a half-hour if many blood vessels are involved.
Side Effects
-
PAMF reports that discomfort is minimal after the procedure. Ice will reduce swelling and bruising, which the John Hopkins Cosmetic Center says will last a week or two. Blistering of treated skin is rare, but possible.
Results
-
The John Hopkins Cosmetic Center says that significant results are apparent after just one PDL treatment, although additional sessions may be needed to completely diminish the appearance of face veins.
