Sun Poisoning Treatment for Skin

Sun poisoning and sun burn are relatively the same thing, but sun poisoning usually refers to a more severe reaction. In most cases sun poisoning involves a painful or itchy rash and even blisters, but also internal side effects like fever and migraines.

  1. Aloe for your Burn

    • Aloe is great for healing, but it is especially good for sun poisoning. Its natural chemicals cool the skin, but also act as an antibacterial to ward off any infection. If you can think ahead, keeping a bottle in the fridge will give added cooling relief.

    Using Asprin

    • Products with aspirin in them do two things: take away some pain and reduce swelling. Take two aspirin every six to eight hours, and drink lots of water with them. Aspirin also helps calm a racing heart, which is another side effect of sun burn.

    Stay Hydrated

    • Your body heals better when it is hydrated, but this is especially important with sun poisoning. Because your body is hot and stressed, you are losing fluids and your body is drying out. Make sure to drink water or other fluids without salt in them so your body can stay wet.

    No Scratching or Rubbing

    • Your skin is already irritated, so it is important to do what you can not to make it worse. Don't rub with towels or sponges. Stay away from shaving, or lotions that have scents in them.

    Consult a Physician

    • There are some times when you may need to call a doctor because the sun poisoning is too severe. Doctors will be able to give you prescription creams that have cortisone in them, which will bring down swelling quicker. They will also be able to deal with the dehydration and mild shock associated with severe burns better than you can at home.
