The compressor inside any Pontiac vehicle is integral to the vehicle's air-conditioning system. Despite being an auto air-conditioning system, the entire unit operates the same way as any standard air conditioner found inside a home or building.

  1. Function

    • The air-conditioning compressor inside a Pontiac is used to drive refrigerant fluid through the rest of the conditioning unit.

    Fluid

    • The compressor spins in much the same way a fan does. This spinning is used to move the refrigerant through the air-conditioning unit, cooling the inside of your car.

    Compression

    • When refrigerant is inside the tight compartments of the compressor, it naturally begins to heat up. This causes it to flow from the compressor to the condenser coil.

    Evaporator Coil

    • The fluid then flows into the evaporator coil of the Pontiac's air conditioning unit. At this point it cools down.

    Evaporator

    • The refrigerant then flows from the evaporator coil to the evaporator unit. Tiny fans then blow the cold air out of the air-conditioner and into the inside of the Pontiac car, cooling it down.
