Bonine Vs. Ginger

Motion sickness is not a welcome addition to any trip. Two popular choices to help alleviate the symptoms of motion sickness are ginger and Bonine.

  1. Symptoms

    • Motion sickness can manifest itself as vertigo, dizziness, nausea, vomiting or headaches. It can be as mild as a feeling of slight upset or so severe that you must avoid excessive motion to prevent nonstop vomiting.

    Bonine

    • Boninie is an antihistamine that counteracts some of the effects of motion sickness. It is available over the counter or by prescription. One tablet is effective for eight hours.

    Ginger

    • Ginger is a natural root that is used to help combat nausea. You can buy ginger capsules, ginger candy or bits of candied ginger to help prevent stomach upset associated with medical treatments, motion sickness or pregnancy.

    Side Effects

    • Bonine can cause drowsiness and dry mouth, although it is said to have fewer side effects than some other motion sickness medication. Ginger has no known side effects, but you should consult a doctor if you are using other drugs.

    Considerations

    • If the only motion sickness symptom you experience is nausea, then ginger might be a good remedy to try. However, if you suffer from dizziness or headaches, Bonine might be more effective for you.
