What Is a Gas Blow Back Airsoft Gun?
There are three types of Airsoft guns, each with its own specific manner of operation: Gas Blowback (GBB), Automatic Electric (AEG) and Spring. Each type of gun has its strengths and weaknesses, and adds a unique wrinkle to the sport of Airsoft.

History
-
Airsoft began in Asia, where gun ownership is illegal. As a substitute for owning and using real firearms, hobbyists in Asia developed plastic and metal replicas to shoot BBs.
Rules
-
Airsoft is very similar to paintball. If another player shoots you, you are "out." Unlike paintball, however, there is no way to verify if a person is shot, so trust among players is very important.

Types of Airsoft Guns
-
GBB guns use compressed gas to propel a BB out of the gun and load the next round. AEGs use a battery powered motor to shoot BBs in rapid succession. Spring guns are manually cocked, fired and re-cocked.
Gas Blow Back Guns
-
GBB most closely resemble a real gun. The compressed gas inside of their magazines allows a BB to travel at high velocity, while simultaneously working the mechanism on the gun to load the next shot. GBB guns are typically smaller, handgun-sized guns, but there are a few sub machine-gun-sized GBBs in production.
Automatic Electric Guns
-
AEGs are typically rifle-sized guns that fire at high speed and high velocity. Some of the largest AEGs can fire in excess of 1,200 rounds per minute. They employ a battery stored in the stock to power an electric motor inside the body to fire BBs.
Spring Guns
-
Spring guns are generally cheaper than either GBBs or AEGs. Their styling is less like a real gun than its more expensive counterparts. They fire one round at a time before the spring must be reset by manually cocking the gun. They are ideal for younger Airsoft players.
