Roller Coaster Harness Safety

Every year, millions of people flee to theme parks to ride the newest, biggest and fastest roller coasters. They flip around or head straight down all at speeds that seem insane. Safety is always key.

Safety

There are more accidents every day riding bicycles or playing sports than riding roller coasters. The rides are meant to make you feel like you're in constant danger, but you're not. The rides are checked daily before the parks open.

Follow Instructions

The single most important thing that a rider can do when riding a roller coaster is follow instructions. Wear the harness correctly, and never try to wiggle out of it.

Proper Fit

Make sure that your lap belt or harness fits properly. It should be snug but not overly tight. Ask the ride attendant to check it if you're not sure.

Problems

If there is a problem while you're on the ride, don't panic. The force on most roller coasters is enough to hold riders in place. Report any problems immediately to the ride attendant.

Other Tips

Empty your pockets before riding. Never enter a restricted area, even if you can see the item that you lost. Inform a ride attendant; most parks will retrieve lost items after the ride is closed at the end of the day.
