What Are the Benefits of Plant Food?
Most plants need fertilizers made up of three main food elements--nitrogen, phosphoric acid and potassium--necessary for growth. Plant foods are sold in a variety of forms including organics, concentrates, tablets, granular formulas and prepared liquid formulas. Plant food (fertilizer) should be applied according to the type, age and size of the plant. Because soils can lack nutrients necessary for growth, plant food helps supplement soils to provide optimum growth. Therefore, plant foods are very beneficial to to plants of all types. -
New Growth and Hardiness
-
Plant food promotes new growth Plant food can fortify and promote new growth of indoor and outdoor plants. Additionally, plant food can help toughen the root systems of new growth.
-
Fight Environmental Damage
-
Plant food fights damage from the environment Soil can lose nutrients outdoors because of environmental elements such as sun and wind. Temperature changes inside a home can also cause damage to plants; plant food helps replace nutrients in soil that are lost to changes in environment, climate or temperature.
Help Replace Lost Nutrients
-
Plant Foods Replace Lost Nutrients Plants can sometimes lose nutrients when flowers, vegetables, fruits, nuts or leaves grow or are harvested. Plant food helps plants quickly recover from stress due to intense periods including growth, pollination and harvest.
Eliminate Competitive Growth
-
Plant food can help plants thrive in their soils, which means that room for competitive growth is often lessened or eliminated. When a plant is fortified, its strong root system can dominate an environment in order to crowd out foreign plants.
Decrease Effects of Aging and Wear
-
Plant foods can help aging plants thrive and grow. When damage or years of growth can strip plants of nutrients, plant foods can help replace necessary minerals needed for healthy plants.
