What Is a Billet Grille?
A billet grille is an aftermarket accessory that replaces or covers the original factory front grille of an automobile or truck. The billet grille, usually made of stainless steel or aircraft-grade aluminum, gives the vehicle a custom look.

The Look
-
Billet is French and is defined as multiple slits in a barrier with today's automakers extending that definition to close-stitched mesh, a looser sports mesh, hex-shaped or polished straight bars or tubing, according to SFXPerformance.com.
-
Concept
-
Billet grilles usually are streamlined versions of the original auto grille. The concept of custom billet grilles is to provide a sleek, uncluttered racing-style version of the factory-installed grille that often leaves off the automaker's logo or markings.
Material
-
Quality billet grilles are usually made of 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum or gauge 304 stainless steel that resist corrosion and rust.
Installation
-
The billet grille can replace or be fitted over the existing grille using only a screwdriver for installation.
Putco
-
The Putco is a popular brand featuring the horizontal stainless-steel grille or the mirror-polished solid-aluminum liquid-style grille.
Other Brands
-
Custom auto suppliers Nasta, Carriage Works, T-Rex and IPCW offer a range of billet replacement and overlay grilles along with other custom accessories, including taillamp assemblies or pickup liftgates without manufacturers' markings and logos.
