Parts of a Meat Grinder

Meat grinders are pretty simple, and it's important to know their different parts if your own grinder malfunctions. You can more easily clean or order replacement parts for your meat grinder if you know what hides inside. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Crank

    • The handle, or crank, is the device that you move in a circular motion to activate the part inside the grinder to grind up the meat.

    Feed Pan

    • The feed pan is also called the filling tray and is the pan contraption located at the top of the grinder unit. It holds the meat that is going to be fed into the grinder.

    Stomper

    • The stomper, or pusher, is a cylindrical item that fits through a hole in the feed pan. It is used to stomp, or push, the meat down into the body of the unit.

    Cylinder

    • This is the main body of the meat grinder that houses the inner contraptions that grind up the meat. The cylinder is also referred to as the housing or body of the unit.

    Worm

    • Also known as the auger, the worm is a spiral piece inside the cylinder. It is turned with the crank handle to help grind the meat.

    Grinder Knife and Plate

    • Once the meat is loosened up by the worm, a grinder knife further grinds it. The meat is then pushed from the knife to the grinder plate, which is outfitted with holes through which the meat passes during its final exit.
