What Type of Curtains Can I Use on Tension Rods?

There are a variety of types of curtains that can be hung on tension rods. Curtains with tabs at the top, curtains with rod pockets, curtains with cafe rings and eyelet-heading curtains can all be hung using a tension rod. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Tab Top Curtains

    • Tab top curtains work well on tension rods and have a casual feel to them. The rod slips through the tabs at the top of the curtains, and they hang freely from the rod.

    Rod Pocket Curtains

    • The most common type of curtains used on tension rods has a pocket through the top of the curtain. The tension rod slips through the pocket.

    Cafe Ring Curtains

    • A third type of curtain that hangs well on a tension rod are curtains with cafe rings. These are metal or plastic rings (similar to shower-curtain rings) that are attached to the top of the curtains. The rod is then slipped through the rings.

    Eyelet Heading Curtains

    • Another type of curtain that can be hung using a tension rod is one that has a set of eyelets along the top. The tension rod is laced through the eyelets to hold the curtains onto the rod.

    Tension Rod Sizes

    • Tension rods come in a variety of sizes, and different sizes work better with different types of curtains. Tension rods can be placed either at the top of the window for complete coverage or halfway down the window to allow light to enter the room while still preserving some privacy.
