Furniture: Fabric Vs. Leather
Deciding to invest in new furniture can be exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming to choose between the numerous styles and fabric options. When choosing a couch, people often have trouble deciding between fabric and leather, but both types of furniture have their benefits. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Style
-
Fabric furniture comes in many different styles because fabric can be purchased in a wide range of patterns and colors. Leather couches come in a range of solid shades. Leather couches can also be artfully distressed to change the style of the furniture.
-
Cost
-
Leather furniture generally costs much more than fabric furniture, so many people hesitate to invest in leather furniture. Fabric furniture usually costs less, although depending on the style of fabric and quality of the furniture, this is not always the case.
Comfort
-
The comfort level of fabric furniture depends on the fabric that is chosen. Fabric furniture can be purchased in fabrics ranging from thick, causal denims to more fine, formal fabrics. For this reason, some people think that fabric couches are more comfortable. Leather couches can feel too hot because leather warms to your body temperature as you sit.
Ease of Cleaning
-
Leather has a protective, non-absorbent surface, making it easier to clean. Because dust and hair will sit on the surface of the leather, leather may be easier to maintain if you have pets or allergies. Fabric furniture can be harder to clean because fabric quickly absorbs liquids and spills.
Durability
-
Leather rawhide is much stronger than man-made fabrics. Leather generally lasts much longer than fabric, and the appearance of leather often improves with age. Although fabric is less durable than leather, choosing a thick, dark, easy-to-clean fabric will help your fabric furniture last longer.
