Despite the name of the game, Mississippi Marbles is not a game played with marbles. It is a dice game that is similar to the dice game 10,000. Players will need a set of six dice, paper and a pen for score keeping. Plastic dice shakers and dice trays can also be used, but are not required.

    Game Play

  1. Mississippi Marbles should be played by two to six players. Before the game begins, each player will roll one die. The player that rolls the highest number will begin the game, with game play then going clockwise around the table. The first player to reach 11,000 points wins the game.
  2. Starting the Game

  3. A player must roll 700 points to "get in the game." To do so, he must roll all six dice, setting aside any ones and fives he rolls. Then, he must continue to roll the remaining dice until he reaches 700 points or no ones or fives are rolled.
  4. Calculating Points

  5. Points are calculated based various types of rolls a player can get during the game. Ones are scored at 100 points and fives are scored at 50 points. However, a player who rolls three ones during play will be scored 500 points.
  6. Melds

  7. Once a player reaches 700 points, they are "in" the game and can start rolling "melds" in addition to ones and fives to score points. A meld will consist of three, four, five or six dice of the same number, or all six dice going in a number sequence to create a straight.
  8. Calculating Melds

  9. Three dice of any number, except one, is scored by hundreds, based on the number rolled. For example, if a player rolls three twos, she would get 200 points added to her score.
  10. Additional Points

  11. A player who rolls a straight is awarded 2,000 points, a four of a kind is awarded 1,000 points, five of a kind is awarded 3,000 points and a six of a kind is awarded 5,000 points.
