About Robotic Pool Cleaners

Robotic pool cleaners are essentially vacuum cleaners for the pool that operate autonomously and provide round-the-clock cleaning to sweep up dirt, grime and algae from the bottom of pools.

Types

Robotic pool cleaners come in two types--above-ground and below-ground cleaners. The difference between these cleaners is mostly in how they clean the pool. Above- and below-ground pools are made of different substances and need to be cleaned differently.

Time Frame

Robotic pool cleaners move slowly. Because they move in erratic patterns, it can take several hours to clean a standard-sized swimming pool. For this reason, they should be left on most of the time when no one is in the pool, to keep it as clean as possible.

Size

Robotic pool cleaners are small devices, about half the size of a standard vacuum cleaner. They are usually round and weigh 10 to 15 lbs., so that they sink to the bottom and have enough force to clean the bottom of the pool.
