Weather Facts About Honolulu, Hawaii

Honolulu is the capital of Hawaii located on the island of Oahu. Because its climate varies little throughout the year, Honolulu attracts significant tourism. The climate supports everything from coral reefs and surfing beaches to spectacular waterfalls and lush vegetation.

  1. Location

    • Because of its geographical location, Honolulu is considered to be situated in the tropics. Air currents from California provide a cooling effect to the city.

    Seasons

    • There are just two seasons in Honolulu; summer, from May through September, and winter, beginning in October and running through April.

    Air Temperature

    • Year-round temperatures range between 60 and 90 degrees, with an average summer day reaching a high of 87 degrees. In winter, most days average a high of about 80 degrees.

    Water Temperature

    • Over the course of the year, the ocean temperature ranges from a low of around 72 degrees to a high of about 76 degrees.

    Features

    • Located in southwest Oahu, Honolulu enjoys a warm, dry climate as opposed to the eastern side of the island which is cooler, windier and wetter.
