Types of Sun Star Flowers

A sun star flower, or Ornithogalum dubium, is a bright yellow or orange flowering plant from the Hyacinthaceae family. Sun stars are perennial, meaning their bulbs can be replanted and grown into new flowers. They are native to South Africa.

Features

Sun star flowers are characterized by colors in a spectrum of yellow to red. They have yellow green leaves and between five and 25 flowers per stalk.

Cultivation

Sun stars flower in winter or spring, and need lots of water in the spring. Sun stars are sensitive to frost and grow best in pots and containers.

Types

There is only type of sun star flower, but other flowers in the Hyacinthaceae family include hyacinth, grape hyacinth, bluebell and squill.
