What Pans Can I Use on My Glass Cooktop?

Glass cooktops can enhance the look of any kitchen. They also provide a wonderful, even cooking experience. There are only certain types of pots and pans that should be used with a glass cooktop to prolong the life of the range. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Characteristics

    • Look for cookware that is flat-bottomed and made of anodized aluminum or cast iron. These heavy metals provide even dispersion of heat.

    Damage

    • Using "generic" or store brand cookware, which is usually poorly made, can cause scratches or damage to the glass. Stay away from cookware that is painted on the bottom because the paint can fuse to the glass.

    Precautions

    • While cooking, be cautious. When moving pots and pans around, do not slide them across the cooktop; instead, lift them when moving. Take care while lifting the cookware, because a heavy pot dropped on the glass cooktop can crack or shatter it, which leads to an expensive repair.

    Cast Iron

    • Older cast iron pans often have a raised ring on the bottom that can scratch the glass surface. Use only modern cast iron cookware with a smooth flat base.

    Knowledge

    • Be aware of what your warranty covers. Scratches from cookware and paint fusions from colored pots can void your warranty.
