Is the Bose SoundDock Good for the Outdoors?

While it's not meant to be permanently stationed outdoors, the Bose SoundDock allows you to connect your iPod, MP3 player or other portable device to Bose speakers for indoor or outdoor use.

Functions

The Bose SoundDock is available in two styles -- stationary and portable. While the stationary SoundDock Series II can be used outdoors, it isn't as as conducive to outdoors use as is the SoundDock Portable.

Size

The Series II, at 6.75 inches high, 12.06 inches wide, 6.06 inches deep and 5.23 pounds, and the Portable, at 6.65 inches high, 11.91 inches wide, 6.48 inches deep and 4.56 pounds, can be transported easily between indoors and outdoors.

Features

The SoundDock Portable features a handle and a built-in rechargeable battery rated for use for at least three hours per charge, handy for outdoors sites with no power outlet. The Sound Dock Series II lacks these features.

Benefits

The Series II and the Portable have a "proprietary acoustic design," with sound strong enough to use in a backyard or campsite, according to Bose.

Drawbacks

Neither model is weather-resistant, so the SoundDock cannot be left out in the elements.
