The Advantages of Daylight Bulbs

Also called OTT lights after their inventor, John Ott, daylight bulbs are a type of light bulb that recreates the effects of daylight from an artificial fluorescent light bulb. These daylight bulbs offer some distinct advantages over other types of artificial lighting.

Eye Strain

Because they cause less glare than other types of lighting, daylight bulbs cause less eye strain, according to Litech (see Reference below).

Relieves Disorder

People who suffer from seasonal affective disorder often benefit from exposure to artificial daylight bulbs and experience a decrease of symptoms like depression and lethargy, according to Destination Lighting (see Reference below).

Types

Daylight bulbs are available in many shapes and sizes, including traditional bulb, candle, spotlight and miniature styles. You do not have to replace the lamps or light fixtures you have, which would be necessary with other types of bulbs.

Colors

The bulbs make colors more true and vibrant than other types of artificial lighting, which helps artists and graphic designers.

Efficiency

Daylight bulbs are available in energy-efficient versions that last up to 10,000 hours, so they are environmentally friendly.
