Types of Indian Hair

There are several different types of Indian hair available on the retail market today, with many different descriptors. If you are currently shopping for Indian hair extensions, this article offers clarification in your search for the perfect hair extensions for you. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Virgin Indian Hair

    • Virgin Indian Hair signifies hair that has not been processed for color or texture. Virgin Indian Hair is available in varying textures, most commonly curly or wavy. Though natural to the hair donor, the color often varies between a jet black color 1, and a dark brown color 4.

    Remy Hair

    • "Remy" or "Remi" is a term that refers to the way the hair was collected from the donor, and how it is applied to the extension. Typically cut straight from a ponytail, Remy hair is cuticle-aligned, meaning that the hair shafts are pointing in the natural, downward direction.

    Single and Double Drawn

    • "Single drawn" hair is what is cut from the ponytail and left as is at the ends. "Double drawn" is used to describe hair that has length cut from the ends, which allows for breakage and naturally-occurring layers to be trimmed away, often forming a blunt end and a thicker overall appearance.

    Natural Textures

    • Though most Virgin Indian Hair is considered curly or wavy, within these two types are a range, from nearly straight to a bushy curl.

    Processed Indian Hair

    • Along with Virgin Indian Hair, processed Indian hair is also available on the shelves of your local beauty store. Often under a name brand, Indian hair can be processed by the manufacturer to achieve a desired color combination or a uniform soft curl.

    Blended Hair

    • Some hair that is processed for color and texture is a mixture of hair that blends Indian hair with European hair, or hair sourced from other Asian countries.
