Going Green and Global Warming
As in all group efforts, each individual is important in combating global warming. Voltaire wrote in "Candide" that you must tend your own garden. By tending our own gardens, so to speak, we reduce global warming.

Consciousness Raising
-
Many organizations are geared toward raising consciousness about global warming. These include Greenpeace, the Global Coherence Project and the Global Warming Working Group.
-
Recycling
-
Recycling reduces the amount of garbage placed in landfills. Landfill garbage produces a gas called methane that can cause the atmosphere to act as a greenhouse, abnormally raising temperatures around the globe.
Reduce Electricity Used
-
Switching off electric items when they are not being used goes a long way to reduce pollution. Unplugging items when they are not in use is also important, because the electric cords still siphon electricity even when the item is turned off.
Dishwashers
-
By using a dishwasher only when it's completely filled with items, you save 100 lbs. of carbon dioxide from entering into the atmosphere, reducing the pollution caused by heating the water.
Laundry
-
Using a washer and dryer only when they are full prevents the release of 700 lbs. of carbon dioxide from entering in the atmosphere every year.
Showers
-
Taking shorter showers reduces the pollution caused by heating the water.
