Spain Immigration Requirements
Before applying for citizenship in Spain, set up residency for at least 10 years. Quicker routes exist for exceptional cases. Obtain a non-lucrative permit if the process becomes too much.
-
Get a Job
-
Work, son! To establish residency, obtain a work visa through your workplace in Spain, which allows you to stay as long as you hold the job. Buy or rent a home to establish an address.
-
Set Up Residency
-
Welcome! A non-European national, with no exceptions, must wait 10 years before applying for citizenship in Spain.
Quicker Ways
-
Take a shortcut. Apply after five years if you were granted political refuge or asylum. Apply after one year if you were born in Spain, have a Spanish parent or are (or were) married to a Spanish citizen.
More Requirements
-
Papers, please. Present your birth certificate, marriage certificate, and parents' birth and marriage certificates translated into Spanish with your application. Turn in a certificate from the police stating your good conduct and statements from two Spanish citizens supporting your character.
Non-Lucrative Permit
-
Just buy your way in, if all else fails. Prove you have $75,000 dollars in the bank and $15,000 for each family member for a non-lucrative permit that will allow you to stay but not work in Spain.
