What Are the Functions of the Menu Bar in the Microsoft Excel?

There are many tools available to users in Microsoft Excel. All versions of Excel prior to Excel 2007 had these tools available through the Menu Bar. In Excel 2007, the Ribbon Bar replaces the Menu Bar.

The File Menu

  • The File Menu is where you access common tasks, such as Save, Save As, Print Preview, Print, and Page Setup.

The Edit Menu

  • The Edit Menu allows you to perform tasks such as Undo, Redo, Cut, Copy, Paste and Delete.

The Insert Menu

  • Use the Insert Menu if you need to insert items into Excel, such as rows, columns, worksheets, charts and pictures.

The Format Menu

  • The Format Menu provides the tools necessary to format your spreadsheet, including fonts, cell colors and conditional formatting, which formats cells based on the data contained.

Other Menus

  • The other menus available in Excel are the View Menu, which allows you to change your views; the Tools Menu, which makes things like spell check available; the Data Menu, which contains different tools that help you accomplish tasks such as sorting and data validation; and the Help Menu.
