Netflix offers a variety of plans and streaming options aimed at basic and more demanding users. Yes – you can watch Netflix in two different locations at the same time if you select a compatible Netflix plan.

Netflix Plans & Streaming from Multiple Devices

Netflix currently offers three different streaming plans. Each plan limits the number of different locations or screens that you can watch on at one time. The Basic Netflix plan only allows only one location or screen at the same time. You also cannot stream video in HD with this Basic plan.

The Standard Netflix plan offers HD streaming along with the ability to stream videos on two devices at once. The most expensive Premium Netflix plan offers HD and ultra HD streaming along with the ability to watch videos on up to four screens or locations at once.

All Netflix plans allow you to watch Netflix on your laptop, TV, phone or tablet as well as watch unlimited movies and TV shows.

Downloading from Multiple Devices

The Basic, Standard and Premium plans all allow you to download videos from Netflix onto multiple devices so you can play them even when you are not connected to the internet. Downloaded movies and TV shows expire from your device within a specific period of time, typically within seven days, so you must watch them offline before they expire. You can download and store multiple videos on one device at the same time. Note that downloaded videos are protected, so you will not be able to directly transfer these downloaded videos to other devices.

Downloaded videos can be a good workaround solution if you would like to play a Netflix video from multiple devices at the same time, but don't want to pay for the more expensive plans. (Further, it allows you to watch a Netflix movie even when you have a poor, or no, internet connection.) Keep in mind that you will have to download the video and disconnect this device from the internet before you play another Netflix video on another device. Downloaded videos can take up a significant amount of space on your device so this may not be a good solution for everyone.

Netflix Profiles & Watching from Multiple Locations

As with downloads, all Netflix plans allow you to have up to five profiles on one account. Profiles are personalized for each person’s TV show and movie preferences. Parental controls can be set on each profile to restrict what TV shows or movies are allowed to be played.

Profiles count against the streaming limit for your specific plan. If you attempt to stream above this limit, your playback will stop on all currently streaming devices, and you will receive a warning.
