Mexican Peso Vs. Dollar

When traveling outside the United States, it's easy to overspend when you don't know the exchange rate between the U.S. dollar and the local currency. Knowing the value of the Mexican peso compared with the dollar can help you avoid spending too much south of the border.

Peso History

In 1993, The Bank of Mexico reformed the currency from the old peso to what was known as the nuevo peso, or new peso. This was done to rid the market of the old peso and its low value. Three years later, the old peso was out of circulation and the new peso was renamed the peso.

As of 2009, the Mexican peso was the ninth highest-traded currency in the world.

Dollar Trading

As of 2009, the U.S. dollar was the second highest-traded currency in the world, after the euro.
