A celery plant is grown mainly for its stalk, but its roots, leaves and seeds can be used as well. Celery requires four months of cool weather to harvest; because of this, it's considered a cool-weather crop.

  3. The celery plant has stalks growing upward and out from a base. Leaves grow from the top of the stalks.

  5. The average height of a celery plant is 1 ½ to 2 feet tall when fully grown.
  6. Type

  7. The celery plant is a hardy biannual vegetable that is grown like an annual. It's in the Umbelliferae family.
  8. Soil

  9. Soil requirements for the celery plant consist of well-draining, rich soil. The pH level should be between 5.8 and 6.8.
  10. Water

  11. The celery plant requires at least one to two inches of water a week while growing. The taste and texture of the plant will be affected if sufficient water isn't supplied.
