-
Metal
-
Wind chimes may be made from metal such as brass, copper or aluminum alloy. Tubing may be used as well as metal strips or pieces. Metal chimes can last a long time, especially outdoors, but keep in mind that some metals may rust or discolor over time.

Bamboo
-
Bamboo is a popular material to use because the hollowness provides a lighter sound.
Glass
-
Clear, painted or stained glass provide a number of artistic possibilities for wind chimes. It is best to hang glass wind chimes indoors unless you plan to bring them inside during inclement weather. Strong winds can cause glass wind chimes to break.
Ceramic
-
Hand-fired ceramic is another option. There are a number of different style possibilities with ceramic chimes. As with glass chimes, it is best to hang these chimes indoors or to bring them inside during high winds or storms.
Shells
-
Shells such as capiz, a flat, semi-transparent shell, can also be used to make wind chimes.
