Different Kinds of Acne Rashes

When the skin erupts with blemishes, it can be difficult to know what may be causing the breakouts. Many people do not realize that there are several types of acne.

  1. Pustules

    • Pustule acne is pink or red, and the pustules will have a puss-filled center that contains white or yellow bacteria-infested fluid. If picked continually, pustules can scar the skin.

    Papules

    • Papules are closed blemishes that are inflamed and red. They do not contain a white or yellow center and can be difficult to pop.

    Blackheads

    • Blackheads are caused by oils clogging the pores. The oils become oxidized and dark.

    Cysts

    • Cysts are a more severe form of acne that are large and filled with fluid. They are usually quite painful and can take a long time to heal.

    Nodules

    • Nodules are the most severe form of acne and are filled with both puss-filled fluid and scar tissue. Nodules usually form deeply pitted scarring once they heal.
