Help on Teaching Student Desk Organizing
Some students can be quite disorganized. It can cause problems for the student and for you as a teacher. Certain techniques and tips can help you implement organization no matter who the student. You should teach students the importance of organizing their desks as early and as often as possible so as to have the best results.
-
Structure Early
-
On the first day of school, inform the students how you want things structured before you hand out materials and books. You can show the students how to set up a system so they can put things in their place when they get them.
-
Supplies
-
Organize supplies Give each child supplies, for example, folders and a pencil box for them to stay organized. If you are unable to provide them, supply each student with a list of necessary supplies they need to get themselves. Show them how to make one folder for each subject and how to set up all their supplies in their desks so they will be set for the year.
Organization Rules
-
On a large piece of poster board, write the organization rules you expect each student to follow, for example, that they should keep all their papers in their respective folders and pencils in a pencil box. Point out the rules each morning to the students as a reminder.
Set Time Aside
-
Set aside time Set ten minutes aside at the end of each day for students to organize their desks. It will help them learn that a few minutes a day can help keep their desk tidy.
Give Praise
-
Acknowledge students who excel at keeping their desks organized and give them praise in front of the other students. The praise will encourage them to keep up the good work and it will be almost a challenge to the other students to do just as well.
