Information on Hair Salon Insurance

Hair salon owners, just like any other small business owners, need adequate insurance protection. Without it, they stand the risk of losing their business in the event of unforeseen property damage or lawsuit.

  1. Purpose

    • Hair salon insurance will protect you against any liability that can arise in the course of your business, as well as protect your shop from damaging incidents such as fire.

    Types

    • There are four types of coverage your hair salon may need: property insurance, professional liability insurance, workers compensation insurance and general liability coverage.

    Benefits

    • Property insurance will protect you against damages to your salon or styling equipment from incidents such as a bursting water pipe; general liability insurance will provide coverage if someone were to slip and fall inside your salon; professional liability will guard against lawsuits due to damages from your services, such as scissors or curling iron injuries; and worker's compensation will cover any employees who may become injured or ill while on the job.

    Eligibility

    • Certain eligibility requirements for coverage will apply. For example, some hair salon policies may not provide coverage if you offer body piercing, tanning, tattooing or hair transplants, or if you have had a previous hair salon-related claims in the past.

    Finding Coverage

    • Some homeowners insurance policies provide coverage for hair salons that are operated out of the home. Specific policies for hair salons may also be found online (see Resources below).
