Aciphex Prescription Drug Side Effects
Aciphex, sold generically as rabeprazole, is taken to lower the amount of acid produced in the stomach and promote the healing of damage to your esophagus. It is used to treat Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) and other acid-related stomach and throat problems.

Reactions
-
If you are allergic to rebaprozole, lansoprazole (Prevacid), esomeprazole (Nexium), omeprazole (Prilosec, Zegerid), or pantoprazole (Protonix), you should not take Aciphex. If you begin experiencing swelling, hives, rash, or trouble breathing, discontinue use and contact your doctor as you may be having an allergic reaction.
Effects
-
While most people take Aciphex with no adverse reactions, you may experience headache, diarrhea, upset stomach or trouble sleeping. If these symptoms worsen or become bothersome, contact your doctor to discuss other options.
You should call your doctor immediately for more severe reactions such as change in heartbeat, fever, unusual bruising or bleeding, vision changes and blistered or peeling skin.

Concerns
-
Relate all prescriptions and herbal supplements you are taking to your doctor as they may increase your likelihood of side effects. Medications that are known to react with Aciphex are atazanavir (Reyataz), blood thinners (warfarin, Coumadin), clopidogrel (Plavix), ketoconazole (Nizoral) and cyclosporine (Gengraf, Sandimmune, Neoral).
Warnings
-
Discuss with your doctor if you have severe liver disease. Contact your doctor if you start experiencing symptoms of B-12 deficiency such as numbness or tingling of your hands or feet, unusual weakness, or sore tongue. These symptoms tend to not appear unless you are taking Aciphex for longer than three years.
Considerations
-
Take Aciphex as it is prescribed by your doctor. For most diagnoses, it is given for four to eight weeks. When treating H. pylori infections, it may only be needed for seven days.
Some symptoms you experience may be signs of another health problem. Contact your doctor immediately if you have any of the following: feeling lightheaded, sweating or dizziness combined with heartburn; pain in the chest, shoulder or jaw (combined with trouble breathing); unexplained weight loss; pain that spreads in your arms, shoulders and neck.
