What Is the File Extension .QXD?
QXD is a file extension for a desktop publishing program that quickly became the industry's leader. QXD files are created using QuarkXPress 5 and earlier versions of QuarkXPress.
-
Uses
-
QuarkXPress is used to create brochures, fliers, technical instructions, magazines, books and similar publications.
Compatible Operating Systems
-
QuarkXPress was first released for Macintosh in 1987. QXD was not compatible with Microsoft until 1992. In 2002, Quark changed gears and released QuarkXPress 5, which was compatible with Microsoft and not compatible with Macintosh.
-
Compatible Programs
-
QXD files can be opened only with QuarkXPress. Because QXD is the earlier file extension for QuarkXPress documents, all versions of XPress should be able to open these files.
Conversion Process
-
In order to open a QXD file with a competing desktop publishing program, you will need a third-party conversion application. Markzware's Q2ID will convert a QuarkXPress document into a file that is compatible with InDesign.
Replacement Extension
-
Quark started using QXP instead of QXD for its desktop publishing files beginning with QuarkXPress 6. Although QXD files can be opened with later versions of XPress, QXP files cannot be opened with earlier versions of XPress.
