What Is the File Extension R02?
An extension usually clues you in to the contents of the related file. For example, DOC refers to a word-processing document and .MOV is a movie. However, some extensions, such as R02, have nothing to do with what's inside the file.

The R02 extension shows that the file is a second in a sequence of parts belonging to a compressed archive. For example, MYFILE.R02 is part of MYFILE.R01 and may have higher-numbered parts such as MYFILE.R03.
